Data You Give Us Directly
Search terms entered into sponsored search forms are sent to the third-party provider that powers those results. We do not keep those searches in a separate database on our own servers. If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to send and use it to respond.
Data We Gather Automatically
Standard hosting logs may include an IP address, browser type, pages viewed, referring page, and timestamp. We use this information in aggregate to operate the site, fix technical issues, and understand which pages are useful. Cookies or similar tools may be used for basic analytics and, where applicable, advertising measurement.
What We Do With This Data
We use the data above to keep the site working, respond to messages, measure traffic, and improve content. We do not sell a visitor list. We do not create individual user profiles from public-record searches.
Links to Other Websites
Berkeley People Search links to city, county, state, court, library, and sponsored search resources. Once you submit information to another website, that website's own privacy policy and terms govern the data. Government portals, California records offices, Alameda County systems, and third-party search providers are outside our control.
Who Might See Your Data
Hosting and support providers process ordinary server logs for this site. Analytics and advertising partners may receive automatic usage data. We may disclose information if valid legal process requires it. We do not otherwise share direct visitor messages except as needed to operate the site or respond.
How We Protect Your Data
The site is served over an encrypted connection. Logs are retained only as long as needed for operation, security, analytics, or legal reasons. Because Berkeley People Search does not run user accounts, it does not store account passwords or private user profiles.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor sent personal information to us, use the Contact page and we will delete what we control.
Your Data Rights
California privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, may give residents rights to know, delete, correct, limit, or opt out of certain uses of personal information held by covered businesses. Because we hold very little, most requests are limited to checking contact messages and server logs. Public records held by Berkeley, Alameda County, California agencies, courts, or libraries are controlled by those custodians, not by us.
Updates to This Policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here. Continuing to use Berkeley People Search after an update means you accept the new policy.
